We publish an unofficial and preliminary translation of a declaration by the Communist Party of Ecuador - Sol Rojo.
Glory and honor to Taita Manuel
We have to report with great regret that comrade JUAN MANUEL ANAGUARQUI died at the age of 70 as a result of an illness. Taita [father, uncle in the sense of leader] Manuel.
Indigenous, peasant, communist. Founder of the Ecuarunari, the UCASAJ (Union of Peasant Organizations of San Juan), later the Chimborazo Indigenous Movement (MICH), and of various peasant organizations in the provinces of Cañar, Tungurahua and Cotopaxi.
In 1974 he joined the fight for land in Chunchi in the Toctesinin municipality, where, together with Lázaro Condo, they were attacked by a combined army and police force without any action. Lázaro was murdered and comrade Juan Manuel was seriously injured. Their will to combat remained unbroken.
Tireless, indomitable fighter, convinced of the inevitable need to struggle for the country with weapons.
Old wasteland wolf, burning thunder of the Cumbreño sun; Master [Amauta] and co-founder of the Communist Party of Ecuador - Sol Rojo, organizer of the first Marxist-Leninist-Maoist-Gonzalo thought peasant front in the bogs of Chimborazo in San Juan and Ballagán, his home.
Old mole, old pasture, old taita. As the old part of the party, he will live forever in the hearts and struggles of the oppressed peoples of the world.
GLORY AND HONOR TO COMRADE JUAN MANUEL!
TAITA MANUEL, IN THE HEART AND IN THE FIGHT OF THE REPRESSED PEOPLE OF THE WORLD!
LONG LIVE MARXISM-LENINISM-MAOISM-GONZALO THOUGHT!
CONQUER THE RED SUN OF LIBERATION: COMMUNISM!
