Gonzalo, who was imprisoned in the Peruvian capital Lima in 1992 and held in strict isolation conditions for 29 years, suffers from severe health problems. The Federation of Socialist Assemblies (SMF) issued a written statement calling for the defense of Gonzalo's life.
The leader of the Peruvian Communist Party, Gonzalo, who was arrested in 1992 during an international operation in the Peruvian capital Lima, has been in strict isolation conditions for 29 years. Gonzalo, who was hospitalized some time ago because of his serious health problems, is still in danger of losing his life. An international solidarity campaign is underway to defend Gonzalo's life. Various communist, revolutionary and democratic forces are issuing statements and appeals in defense of Gonzalo's life.
Issued a written statement to the Federation of Socialist Assemblies (SMF) calling for the defense of Gonzalo's life. The statement, made under the title "Let's defend the life of Comrade Gonzalo," reads as follows;
"In Peru, we knew and followed that Abimael Guzmán, professor of philosophy, leader of the revolutionary struggle against the U.S.-backed ruling classes and the Peruvian Communist Party, had long suffered from serious health problems. At this point, Comrade Gonzalo's health problems have progressed and he has been hospitalized.
Comrade Gonzalo, the leader of the Peruvian Communist Party who organized the People's War against Peruvian reaction, was imprisoned in 1992 in a joint attack by the U.S. and the then fascist dictator Fujimori and held for 29 years in harsh conditions in an underground prison at the Carlo Naval Base, which was built specifically for him. Under these conditions, Comrade Gonzalo, who has not compromised his revolutionary-communist stance, has transformed the underground cell into a position of defense of communism.
Abimael Guzmán, one of the leaders of the International Communist Movement, has seen his health deteriorate and his life is more threatened than ever. As the Federation of Socialist Assemblies (SMF), it joins in solidarity to defend the life of Comrade Abimael Guzmán; We invite the forces of labor, democracy and socialism of our geography and the world to extend this solidarity."
