Back in early January, thousands took to the streets in Iraq as it marked the second anniversary of the assassination of Qassim Suleimani, Iran's highest general, by Yankee imperialism. At the protests, demonstrators shouted slogans such as "Death to the Americans" burned Yankee flags and carried signs demanding that the Yankees withdraw their forces from Iraq.
Suleimani was assassinated by a drone strike at Baghdad airport on 03 January 2020 on the direct orders of then US President Donald Trump. Suleimani was part of Iran's reactionary leadership that sold the country to imperialism, mainly Russian. The assassination of Suleimani was thus also a clear announcement by the USA to its imperialist rival from Russia.
Even though Suleimani was not a man of the people but a reactionary and criminal and his death is not to be mourned, the rebellion of the masses in Iraq as well as the rebellion of the masses in the whole of West Asia is justified. Because his assassination was another military strike of the USA on Iraqi territory and therefore also an attack on the people. The demonstrations in January were also mainly directed against Yankee imperialism, which has been littering the whole of West Asia, especially Iraq for decades with its imperialist aggression and bleeding the peoples. But the masses have always responded with a clenched fist and do not even think of waving the white flag in the face of the imperialist genocides. The struggle continues and everywhere in West Asia the flag of the Yankees is burning as a symbol of just resistance against imperialism and for national liberation.
