Every thirteen seconds a child under the age of five dies as a result of starvation.
148 Million Children under the age of five are experiencing delayed growth due to malnutrition. 45 Million were severely malnourished, up to 783 million people are starving in total – there is enough food. It is also not a question of the distribution of the available food. Accordingly, the Swiss sociologist and former UN special Rapporteur on the right to food, Jean Ziegler, correctly said in 2009 that "A child who is now dying of hunger is being murdered. This is how someone from inside this bestial system described the complete moral bankruptcy of imperialism and punished her cynical chatter about freedom and "human rights" with lies.
The focus of hunger is in sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. According to the World Hunger Index 2022, the hunger situation is very serious in five countries: Central African Republic, Chad, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Madagascar and Yemen. In some countries, there is not enough data available to calculate an individual GHI value. However, on the basis of other data, the situation was provisionally classified as very serious in four countries, namely in Burundi, Somalia, South Sudan and Syria.
Almost every tenth person in the world today is affected by hunger or malnutrition. This is according to the latest UN World Food Report. In Africa, therefore, even one in five people does not have enough to eat. In 2019, the number was still at 613 million people. 2.4 Billion people - that's almost 30 percent of the world's population - had no permanent access to food last year. In addition, 3.1 billion people (42 percent of the world's population) could not afford a healthy diet in 2021.
The report of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the UN Children's Fund Unicef, the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) and the World Health Organization (WHO) drastically explains: the goal set, which should have been defeated by world hunger in 2030, cannot be achieved. An admission of the gravity of the crisis of imperialism.
