Greenland:
On the 6th of April elections will be held for the legislative body of the Greenlandic administration.
This coincides with a the big case of whether or not to allow for rare earth mineral mining in Greenland, which is a point of contention among the political parties in the Greenlandic administration. The project is promised by the mine company to bring in 1,5 billion DKK every year, which is the first time the Greenlandic administration will take use of the Law on the Self-Governing of Greenland, which allows for the Greenlandic administration to keep profits from earth resources, but the Danish State would at the same time lower its contributions to Greenland.
The resistance against the plans mainly are on the point that it will throw uranium particles into the atmosphere in the area around the mine.
If the project is made, then it would mean the largest step from colonial to semi-colonial means of economic exploitation, since the Law on the Self-Governing of Greenland was introduced. Therefore especially the Danish imperialist bourgeoisie has a close eye on this election, and the effects it will have on the exploitation of the Greenlandic people and its political control over Greenland.
