It should still be well remembered that last year the French government wanted to push through the new "Global Security Law".
A law that was mainly directed against the struggles of the masses and was supposed to provide special protection for the hated police. Article 24 in particular was publicly criticised at the time because it could have easily censored the publication of violence by the police. After great protests and struggles, this article was amended. However, this had nothing to do with sympathy for the people in France, but much more with averting even more damage from the French police, whose popularity rating has not only recently been sinking within the population. However, to ensure that the police do not go away completely empty-handed, Article 25 was passed on the 18th of March. This represents an extension of the powers of police officers to carry their service weapons even when off duty. This is not an absolute novelty, because since 2016 police officers have been allowed to carry their service weapons off duty upon request to their superiors. This "offer" has already been taken up by 30,000 police officers. Now, however, this step via the superior has been abolished, so no cop has to be afraid of being asked what he wants to do with his firearm in his free time. Even in public buildings, where it was previously forbidden to carry firearms, police officers can now carry their weapons as private citizens without worry. It is now possible that someone in civilian clothes is sitting next to you in the cinema with a gun or standing behind you in the box office queue. It is not publicly known exactly what the benefit of this is. However, the French Minister of the Interior, Darmanin, is quite relaxed about the matter and only said, "We are not setting the world on fire.“
