On Monday, April 27, protests and fights against security forces took place in the governorate of Dhi-Qar in the south of Iraq.
To quell the protests the reaction used live ammunition and wounded at least seven people. Reinforcements have been sent by security forces to the town of Al-Rifai and a curfew was declared in the region to bring the situation under control.
Since October 2019 mass protests took place regularly to protest against the poor living conditions and the big amount of corruption. More than 500 people have been killed and 17,000 injured in the time so far.
