Last week members of the West Papua National Liberation Army carried out an armed action against security forces of the Indonesian state, seizing weapons and wounding one police officer.
On Friday an unknown number of rebels rushed a police post in Paniai district at 10:00 p.m. local time on Friday night. During the encounter a police officer were wounded, probably by a grenade. Further the combatants confiscated several fire arms. According to an alleged statement of the West Papua National Liberation Army these weapons were seized y security forces during raids after an attack on a mining company weeks before.
On March 30, independence fighters attacked an office of the U.S.-based Freeport-McMoran copper mine and shot an executive staff member from New Zealand. These was not the first attack on the mining company this year.
