On Monday, June 23, clashed between protesting masses and security forces occurred for the second night in succession in the city of Tataouine in Tunisia.

 

During combative protest against the high unemployment protesters erected barricades and set them to fire. The deployed security forces used tear gas to disperse the crowds, the masses responded to these attacks by hurling stones and other objects at the police.

 

According to the news agency „ANSAmed“ the day before police forced stormed and cleared a protest camp, build up weeks before. At the operation several opposition activists were also detained.

 

In March the official unemployment rate in Tunisia was 15.10 percent. The government had already decided on measures to reduce unemployment in 2017, but none of these have been implemented to date.
