Against the Holiday of German imperialism, October 3rd, the “League against the State of Emergency and the Police State” mobilized this year to a demonstration in Hamburg. The demonstration was against police state tendencies that have been developing particularly in the last months of the “Corona State of Emergency”. To protest, about 300 people gathered in front of the Rote Flora on that day.
The demonstration marched a vigorously and loudly through the central district. Even though the goons of Senator of the Interior Grote mostly kept back, the role Mr. Grote played, especially during the Corona-Sanctions, was continuously denounced. In recent months, this cynic individual made the police enforce the state of emergency in Hamburg with an iron fist, while at the same time organizing private parties himself, in which the rules in effect for the rest of the population were absolutely ignored. While everyone else would have to fear fines, repremants or chicanery, this cynicism largely remained unnoticed apart from a couple of uncomfortable articles in the bourgeois press. This behavior was denounced in a speech. Furthermore throughout the demonstration the increasing police state methods and the consequently increasing police violence was denounced.
Additionally a high banner was carried for both comrades Nubar and Rosa that in September heroically gave their lives in the struggle against the Turkish state. Loud slogans of “Nubar yoldaş ölümsüzdür!” (“Comrade Nubar is immortal”) and “Rosa yoldaş ölümsüzdür!” (“Comrade Rosa is immortal”) could be heard along the route.
In the course of the demonstration three times the flag of the FRG, also a symbol of the reaction, was burned. Although this is considered a crime by German penal code the police did not engage the demonstration in its course. It was obvious that they received the order to not create any scandal in which they openly attacked a demonstration against the police state and police violence. Hence they were very watchful to keep distance to the demonstration and not to be engaged in direct contact withe the demonstration. Nevertheless in the end of the demonstration it became obvious that the police prepared to make arrests after its dissolution. At Poolstraße – the place were only weeks ago eight police officers assaulted and strangled a 15 year old – arrest units sifted through the captured videos and plain cloths cops were send to find malcontent protesters. Hence, the demonstration decided to make a collective retreat to a nearby train station. This obviously took the cops by surprise and they became a bit nervous. A detachment of cops that had taken up position in front of the train station retreated from this forceful manifestation and allowed passage without a hassle. In the station as well slogans were should vigorously and everybody felt, how the cops have been powerless against the collective force of the masses. Also the plain cloth police send to chase could not change a thing.
