In France, the first round of regional and departmental elections is due on the 20th of June.
It is therefore once again the time when various bourgeois politicians, of whatever shade, deign to come to the working class neighbourhoods and beg for votes. The election and the associated campaign are again closely linked to the presidential election next year. Bourgeois politicians are flooding into the neighbourhoods with a ready-made programme that could not be more detached from the real problems of the masses. And this is being punished by the masses: voter turnout is falling steadily in France, fewer and fewer people believe that within this system their situation will really change one day. The comrades of La Cause de Peuple write: "The bourgeois democracy in which we live is only a masked dictatorship of the ruling class, the capitalist class" and thus it serves exactly this class. On the declining voter turnout, it is written: "Abstention does not harm "democracy" in any way, but on the contrary is a consequence of the absence of real democracy." The falling turnout shows that the system has "run out of steam". The democracy that the leaders preach is not the understanding that revolutionaries have, so democracy means "being able to make decisions, collectively, on matters that affect our daily lives".
