Sweden
A series of demonstrations were held in Sweden by the Danish fascist Rasmus Paludan, who gained notoriety for his infamous Quran burning demonstrations, aimed to harass and provoke masses from oppressed nations, mainly aimed at those of Muslim faith. These were previously held in Denmark, but have now been exported to Sweden. The masses from the proletarian neighborhoods have fought fiercely at these occasions, that has sparked rebellions that take aims at the police and other bourgeois institutions.
On the 14th of April, there was a counter-demonstration in Linköping, that also spread to the neighbouring city of Norrköping. In Linköping three policemen were sent to the hospital for injuries as a result of the counter-demonstration, the counter-demonstrators also confiscated state property such as bullet proof vests, police uniforms and other equipment seized from the police. In the end two people in Linköping and one in Norrköping was arrested, and the fascist demonstration was stopped dead in its tracks in Linköping.
On the 15th of April the same happened in Örebro and in the proletarian borough of Rinkeby in Stockholm. In Stockholm the fighting broke out when Paludan started burning the Quran, the police used tear-gas against the counter-demonstrators, and the counter-demonstrators threw rocks and made other attacks. In Örebro also about 200 counter demonstrators were present, attacking the police, setting four police busses on fire and injuring five policemen.
On the 16th there was supposed to be a fascist demonstration in Landskrona, but there was so much trouble before the demonstration was to start, that the police ordered that the demonstration be moved to a motorway plaza in the south of Malmö instead. Big mistake. A counter demonstration was formed there and after the demonstration ended at 20:00, the fighting continued in the big proletarian neighbourhood of Rosengård, as well as in the nearby town of Landskrona, in Rosengård a car and an electric bus was set on fire.
These demonstrations show firstly the decay of imperialism, how the most reactionary chauvinist ideas are spread in order to try to split the masses. Secondly we see that the masses want to fight, especially those from oppressed nations, those that experience the chauvanist policy of the country, whose government is often shown as the example of the most “politically correct” Nordic country, when it comes to treatment of immigrants. These events forces one to pick sides, are you with the masses or with imperialism? Some have claimed that you should not support these struggles because some of the masses are part of lumpen gang and did not fight with a proper political gangs, but you cannot condemn the masses even if some bear reactionary ideas or have lumpen tendencies. The attacks of the masses against the foot-soldiers of Swedish Imperialism and its state-property, show exactly that the masses have no trust in this old system and want to destroy it, that is a good thing, now it is just up to the revolutionaries to guide this struggle, by providing the only alternative.
