An important demonstration organized by CEBRASPO (Brazilian centre for support of the Peoples) and ABRAPO (Brazilian Association og People´s Lawyers) took place in front of the Mexican consulate in São Paulo, the most populous city in Brazil, demanding the presentation of Dr. Ernesto Sernas García alive as part of the international campaign for it.
After reading a statement, two participants entered the consulate and registered the document that explains the importance of Dr. Sernas and the reason for his dissapearance as well as blaims the high summit of the Mexican state for this happening.
“Dr. Sernas is a laws professor at Juarez Autonomous University from Oaxaca (UABJO), an essayist, researcher, lecturer, and lawyer of the legal defense front for the 22 members of the Current of the People Red Sun who were arrested and charged with terrorist offenses and for carrying explosive material of exclusive use by the Armed Forces, within the sham-judgment held by the old bourgeois-latifundium state against the organization. Due to the length of knowledge and commitment to the causes of the people, Dr. Sernas was able to show that the whole process, accusations, evidence, etc. were an assembly created by the heights of the reactionary state. Thus, his disappearance points to the clear and sinister participation of the deepest circles of the old state and the Mexican government.” states the document that was sent to the consulate.
This is the second public action in support to Dr. Sernas, another action took place in Rio de Janeiro on September 5.
Also the banner in support to Dr. Sernas García was held at the end of the First Seminary of the Regional and Agrarian Studies and Research Nucleus (NEPRA) which had the theme of “struggle for land in Minas Gerais: some contributions” that was held on September 19 in the State University of Montes Claros, in the north of Minas Gerais state. Many activists, supporters of the struggle for land and territory for indigenous and quilombola peoples and peasants watched the lectures of the works that NEPRA developed by the NEPRA after one year of its existence. Among the works are the research of the “agrarian conflicts” in the North of Minas Gerais in the last 17 years, the release of the Agrarian Conflict Atlas, the research on the seasonal migration of agrarian workers. Also two books were released in the occasion: “Canastra Sierra a territory in dispute” and “Agrarian Geography in Debate”.
