Last Friday, November 5th, revolutionary students organized demonstrations in front of the Embassy of Mexico in Chile demanding the presentation of Dr. Ernesto Sernas García alive and delivered the following letter signed by 11 Chilean political, social and cultural organizations. We forward an unofficial english translation of the letter.
"Dr. Sernas Presentation with Life!"
"The phD in law Ernesto Sernas García is a lawyer of the Mexican people, professor of the Benito Juárez Autonomous University of Oaxaca (UABJO), essayist, lecturer and researcher, who has dedicated himself tirelessly to the defense of the fighters and revolutionaries of Oaxaca, Mexico.
In particular, he was part of the legal defense of the political prisoners of June 7, a process in which 25 activists were arrested for "terrorism" offenses in a fake trial, in which due to the great work of Dr. Sernas, it had been possible to discard numerous false proofs and also recently achieved the acquittal of all the accused, confirming that the process to which the 25 activists were subjected for crimes of "terrorism" was a complete assembly.
In this context, Dr. Sernas is seen for the last time in his home in San Agustin de las Juntas, Oaxaca on May 10, 2018. From that moment, his family, friends and colleagues have fought hard to find him, demanding the presentation of the Mexican State alive. However, to date, the progress of the investigation has been null, demonstrating the nonexistent concern on the part of the State to clarify this crime.
That is why we affirm, together with the people of Oaxaca, that Dr. Sernas has been the victim of enforced disappearance, a sinister form of repression by the State against the popular fighters, due to his role as a strong defender of the people, lawyer of prisoners and political prisoners and for his active and militant support to the struggles of the Mexican people.
Moreover, this case is not isolated, but is part of a real war against the people, where thousands of families are displaced from their lands, union leaders and politicians are killed and where no more than 4 years ago, 43 students of a Normal School of Ayotzinapa were forcibly disappeared.
The signatory organizations demand the live presentation of Dr. Ernesto Sernas García immediately and we call on all the democratic and popular organizations of our country to adhere to the international campaign #DrSernasPresentacionConVida, developing actions of solidarity and struggle.
