Let us firmly raise the red flag of Comrade Ernesto Sernas García
On May 10, 2018, Dr. Ernesto Sernas García, professor at the Autonomous University of Oaxaca Benito Juárez [Spanish abbreviation: UABJO], essayist, researcher, lecturer, activist and defender of the rights of the people, was disappeared.
Comrade Sernas García was working as legal adviser for Current of the People – Red Sun and was defending 23 militants imprisoned in high-security prisons accused of terrorism and possession of explosives reserved for use by the Mexican army.
The masterful defense led by comrade Sernas García allowed the release and subsequent acquittal of the CP – Red Sun militants as well as two more co-defendants. This generated deep class hatred among the ruling elites who ordered this crime against humanity to be committed against a revolutionary intellectual.
Since then our comrade has been missing and the position of our organization and his family is to demand that he be presented alive.
Throughout these more than four years, CP – Sol Rojo has carried out countless protest activities, within the framework of the #DrSernasPresentaciónConVida campaign. This has been joined by renowned personalities, schools, cultural institutions, human rights organizations, democratic-revolutionary organizations and Communist Parties around the world.
As part of these actions in our country there have been marches, sit-ins, caravans, rallies, flyers, paintings, etc. activists and friends have raised his name, his face and his struggle in states such as Oaxaca, Guerrero, Chiapas, Hidalgo, Veracruz, the State of Mexico and Mexico City.
With the same tenor and in a great display of proletarian internationalism, revolutionary activists have held rallies, demonstrations and pronouncements at Mexican consulates and embassies, as well as conferences and distribution campaigns, among others, in countries such as Colombia, Brazil, Ecuador, Chile, the United States, Canada, Galicia, Germany, Austria, Finland, Rojava.
The United Nations Organization through the Committee on Enforced Disappearances (CED) issued Urgent Action No. 540/2018 and later the opinion of a group of experts; the World Organisation Against Torture [Sp. abbreviation: OMCT], the International Federation for Human Rights [Sp. Abbreviation: FIDH] and Front Line Defenders have also spoken out in this regard.
However, despite all the legal means and political efforts undertaken until this moment, the old landlord-bureaucratic State, through the federal and state governments, is carrying out dilatory and re-victimizing practices against Dr. Sernas and his family.
In this sense, the Ministry of the Interior and the National Search Commission, together with the Attorney General of the State of Oaxaca, the State Search Commission and the Human Rights Ombudsman of the People of Oaxaca, maintain a policy of simulating an effort through files where the bureaucratism and procedural inactivity are the common factor, preventing access to truth and justice.
That is why this August 30, which marks the International Day of the Detained-Disappeared, Current of the People – Sol Rojo and the family of comrade Dr. Ernesto Sernas García will once again take to the streets, to shout his name out loud, to put up his likeness on the walls and make it clear that we do not forgive or forget this crime against humanity that is part of the war against the people that has so far left more than 100,000 people missing in our country.
We call upon our sister organizations in Mexico and in other countries so that this August 30, they accompany us from their regions, with their forms and their capacities, in this demand for justice before the old and rotten Mexican State. The international campaign #DrSernasPresentaciónConVida continues.
