In recent days, numerous actions and protests have been held across Brazil against the government's announced cuts to the education budget. Already at the end of September, the government decided to cut the education budget by a total of 2.4 billion Brazilian Real. Even before the new budget cuts, the budget for education was far too low.
Large, militant demonstrations with thousands of participants were held in many cities, such as São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Brasilia and Porto Velho. Beyond the demonstrations, blockades and occupations were carried out at several universities in the country. There were also leaflet actions and banners with demands and slogans that were hung up.
The Movimento Estudantil Popular Revolucionário (MEPR), the Popular Revolutionary Movement of Students, also played a major role in the protests against the budget cuts. The comrades from the revolutionary and democratic newspaper A Nova Democracia reported on the protests of the Brazilian students in several articles and also published numerous videos and pictures.
