Peru's opportunist President Pedro Castillo announced that he has dissolved Congress and declared a state of emergency as of 22:00 on 07 December 2022.
In his speech, Pedro Castillo said the following: "We have decided to form an emergency government aimed at establishing the rule of law. We are temporarily dissolving Congress and establishing a state of emergency government."
At the same time, Castillo stated that he has imposed a curfew that will begin at 10pm on 07 December. In his speech, Pedro Castillo stated that the dissolution of Congress was only temporary and that an emergency government would be put in place. Castillo said, "Congress has violated the balance of powers and the rule of law to establish a congressional dictatorship with the approval of the Constitutional Court."
The deputies of the Peruvian Oversight Commission rejected the measure, declaring it unconstitutional.
This move by the Peruvian president shows how the political crisis in Peru is getting worse and worse. This political crisis in Peru is an expression of the crisis of bureaucratic capitalism, which fails to establish a stable and consistent government. Especially in the semi-feudal and semi-colonial countries, this crisis shows up again and again, which is concretely a crisis of democracy, as part of the decomposition of imperialism. Peru is one of the prime examples of this crisis, having had a total of six presidents in the last seven years.
