On May 17, 1980, on the eve of the presidential elections in Peru, the People’s War was initiated. Today we celebrate the 39th anniversary of this historical date, that shook the planet, made imperialism tremble and vigorously awoke and impulsed the struggles of the people and the proletariat all over the world.
On this occasion we publish the 23 songs comprising the sampler know throughout the International Communist Movement by the title “Songs of the shining trenches of combat” for the first time fully subtitled in English, based on the translation of the Peru People’s Movement itself. These comrades, in 1999, published all of the songs together with a booklet containing the Spanish lyrics as well as the English translations pressed on a CD and circulated them widely. In the booklet it says:
“On the 17th of May 1980 the People's War, led by the Communist Party of Peru (PCP), under the Great Leadership of Chairman Gonzalo, was initiated. Thus, the democratic revolution of a new type is unfolding to sweep away the three mountains that oppress Peru and the Peruvian people: Imperialism, bureaucratic capitalism and semi-feudalism. […]
With the development of the People’s War, the Party has led the construction of the People’s Committees and the Support Bases, in this manner building New Power, with a new economy, new politics and new culture […] all under the leadership of the proletariat, through the Communist Party. […]
Thus the People’s War continues to develop as the torch of the world proletarian revolution!“
