The 16th and 17th of October marked great days of action for the city of Oaxaca, when the comrades of Sol Rojo held their two day long “Days in Defence of the People’s Rights”. In an effort to act energetically, combative, quick and with mobility various activities with a huge mass mobilisation were launched under the slogan “Put Maoism at the forefront of the People’s Struggles”.
In the face of the combative mass mobilisation within these days, the comrades report, that the media, in service of the old Mexican state and bureaucratic capitalism, once again tried to draw an image of the revolutionary forces to be more or less violence-crazy barbarians. But nothing could be further from the truth: It is the Mexican government that, enforcing the imperialists demands, acts aggressively against the people, displacing them or robbing their land my means of paramilitary forces for one or another big project of the imperialists, making them choke on meagre salaries and, whenever a strong movement is developing, is not hesitating to murder and unlawfully imprison anyone they want. The struggles against the forceful evictions and intimidations due to the building of a new military installation in San Blas Atempa and San Miguel Copala, the struggle of the healthcare workers against unlawful lay-offs, the murder of Meztli Sarabia or the imprisonment of her mother – all recent examples – highlight this very clearly.
How can it be illegitimate to resist one’s displacement or combat a system that obviously fosters paramilitary executions? It isn’t! It’s right to rebel! The stories of the media are nothing more than a vain attempts to once again throw mud at those, who struggle most resolutely against these circumstances. And it is an often deployed method, everyone ever to engage in such struggles – even in the imperialist countries – had to experience (one only has to remember the most recent and wide-ranging slandering campaign against anyone who ever raised his voice against the G20, after the successful struggles of Hamburg). The images, actions and mass participation within the “Days in Defence of the People’s Rights” of Sol Rojo have shown these wild accusation to be build on sand and not to serve the people, but their oppressors. We congratulate the comrades for their successful campaign!
