Some Impressions of May Day in Northern Germany

In Northern Germany, there were also numerous actions on May 1, 2023, we publish here the compilation of some reports that were sent to us. Thus, different actions took place in Bremen, Bremerhaven, Hamburg and Oldenburg.

Bremen

Here activists distributed hundreds of copies of the founding declaration of the Red Federation and sold newspapers at the demonstration of the DGB (German Federation of Unions). There were many positive reactions and interested conversations with the participants of the demonstration.

A number of flags appeared in the working-class neighborhoods of Gröpelingen and Tenever on the night of May 1, enhancing the cityscape.

Bremerhaven

In Bremerhaven, the Red Women's Committee called for a demonstration through the so-called Goethe Quarter. Under the slogan "Fight and resist against the price increases and militarism!" the demonstration passed through the neighborhood and some local residents already participated. They carried flags and signs with  demands. Here flew the flag of the International Communist League (IKB) among the numerous flags with hammer and sickle. A flag of the Red Federation was also raised here, appropriately celebrating its founding on May Day.

After the demonstration, however, May Day in Bremerhaven was not yet over. The Red Women's Committee had organized a final rally, here there was food and drink and an information table. Many local residents came by, helped out and there were lively discussions, among other things about the upcoming elections in the federal state of Bremen. Many expressed their displeasure with the bourgeois parties and the firm will not to participate in the election under any circumstances. There was also a cultural program in which, among other things, some Turkish folk songs were played. Different generations of the neighborhood celebrated the working class struggle day side by side. The founding declaration of the Red Federation was distributed in large numbers and newspapers were sold, which were discussed together on the spot.

Hamburg

In Hamburg, an alliance succeeded in reviving the Internationalist Bloc at the DGB demonstration. Mainly revolutionary youth participated here in the front rows and shouted loud slogans. Many internationalist forces joined in, causing the block to grow considerably. The flags of the International Communist League and Red Federation also flew in the front block. Numerous copies of the LCI declaration were distributed.

Oldenburg

In Oldenburg this year,for the first time, a number of red flags with hammer and sickle could be seen in the cityscape on May Day.
