Istmo de Tehuantepec, Mexico. Tomorrow, a regional peasant-indigenous mobilization is called in five important points in the region. Both in the North and East Zone as well as in the Port of Salina Cruz, the UCIZONI, COPIR and Corriente del Pueblo Sol Rojo will carry out actions in a day called Day of Indigenous and People’s Resistance against the Interoceanic Corridor of the Istmo of Tehuantepec (CIIT), against high electricity rates and against repression; On this last point, they demand the immediate and unconditional release of comrade Salvador Pinal Meléndez, a political prisoner opposed to the CIIT, and an end to the harassment of members of the Civil Resistance and activists of the various organizations. Just yesterday, elements of the FGR violently detained two UCIZONI comrades: the Indigenous Education teacher and member of Section XXII of the SNTE-CNTE Micaela Valdivieso Joaquín and her son Ever Muñoz Valdivieso, accusing them of “opposition to the execution of any work or public work“. Finally, the comrades were released after the public denunciation that achieved great solidarity within the movement.
