A recent survey by the bourgeois Allensbach Institute for Public Opinion Research for the state-run media broadcaster SWR confirms the crisis of parliamentarism in the FRG. The statement "We live in a sham democracy in which citizens have no say" was agreed to by 31% of respondents, and by as many as 45% in eastern Germany.

The mobilisation for May Day, the international day of struggle of the working class, has been going on in Bremerhaven for the whole month of April. Apart from distributed leaflets, paintings were made, banners and dazibaos were hung up, and smaller spontaneous rallies were organised in different places, calling for a demonstration on May 1 in Bremerhaven. The comrades sent us numerous pictures, some of which we would like to publish here.

In Essen-Leithe, on the evening of April 8, the police were filmed brutally arresting a naked man in a park. In the video, which was filmed by an eyewitness and "Der Westen" was leaked, you can probably see the defenseless man being beaten bloody with batons by up to seven different cops for six minutes. Tasers and a biting police dog were also used because the police, reportedly outnumbered, felt threatened by the naked and unarmed man. According to the police officers, he behaved aggressively towards them and attacked them. However, this could be refuted in an interview with the filming eyewitness, namely, the man hid in a bush from the cops when the police dog rushed towards him and bit his calf.

Last Monday, a large anti-militarist demonstration took place in downtown Hamburg.

A new study by the Hans Böckler Foundation published last week confirms the city of Bremerhaven as a stronghold of poverty. The study measures the average per capita income in all independent cities and districts in the FRG. There are 401 of them in total, Bremerhaven lands in 398th place. With an annual income of about 18,500 euros per capita, Bremerhaven comes off among the worst.

So while people in Bremerhaven earn an average of 18,500 euros a year, the picture is quite different in other districts. Especially in the south of the Federal Republic, people's incomes are higher. The front-runner is Heilbronn in Baden-Württemberg, where the average income is over 42,000 euros. The national average is 23,706 euros.

In the following we re-share a document of the Red Fraction of the Communist Party of Chile in an unofficial and preliminary translation, which was previously published on Communist International (CI-IC.org).
