On the 15th of December, up to 19 Members of the Revolutionary Writers’ Association (Virasam) were taken into preventive custody by the indian police. This happened shortly before a protest of Virasam against the World Telugu Conference should take place. The Chairman of Virasam, Varavara Rao, who also was detained, told the reactionary indian press: "The State government is organising the conference to promote Bhramnical ideology and encouraging capitalists. These policies will have a bad impact on modern poets and budding writers".

In the evening of the same day, all mentioned Members were released from preventive custody.

We publish this letter written by Kobad Ghandy regarding his renewed arrest by the Police of Jharkhand:

After being acquitted in all cases and spending eight years and three months in jail, when I, Kobad Ghandy was finally released from jail, I was re-arrested by the Jharkhand Police just three days after release. On Dec 16, 2017, I was attending the Achempet Court (near Hyderabad), the Jharkhand, accompanied by the APSIB (Andhra Pradesh State Intelligence Bureau) arrested me and took me by flight to Ranchi.

For the first time in the 161 years of existence of the company the employees of Gasco went on strike, starting the 7th of December. After the companies refusal to move any inch closer the workers demands in the collective bargaining process and the dismissal of 30 employees to intimidate them, the overwhelming majority laid down their work last week.

Demonstration during the Pedagogy students meeting in Petrolina, Northeast of Brazil

The struggle for Education in Brazil is getting sharper, on December 7, in a public hearing in Brasilia, students participated in order to denounce the pedagogue profession regulation sham (the draft bill 6847/17). This draft does not solve the wage issue, does not promote the profession, removes the autonomy in class practice, does not recognize the scientific character of the pedagogy course – change the formation paradigms into “class givers” following the World Bank booklets. The masteries student representing the National Executive of the Pedagogy Students (ExNEPe) denounced that the pedagogue profession is being considered a threat to society and has to be strictly controlled.

Building a collective life: Urban Community Wenewen de Collipulli

wenewen1In the urban sector of Collipulli, Ninth Region, the land seizure of the Wenewen Community is located in a property owned by Víctor Anguita. El Pueblo newspaper talked with Alexis Guajardo Levio and Zacarías Guajardo Martínez, members of the community, who told us how this process of construction and struggle has been.

Yesterday, Philippine Congress with a huge majority accepted president Duertes proposal to yet again prolong the Martial Law in Mindanao that is been in place since May this year. Contradicting the previous claims that this law would serve the “War against ISIS”, he now clearly stated his intention of enacting this law in order to combat the NPA, which has significant influence on the Island.

On December 10th, the British Columbia Federation of Labour expressed their support of Comrade G.N. Saibaba who is being murdered by the indian state, writing:
"Dr. Saibaba is an indigenous rights activist who is currently imprisoned for being a leading voice defending the rights of adivasis (tribals), dalits (formerly called untouchables), and religious minorities in India. He is a person living with a physical disability and his living conditions in prison are of international concern."

In India, Comrade Kobad Ghandy has been released from prison on bail at the 12th of December.

We publish this inofficial translation of a call of the Solidarity Committee for Indigenous Peoples (Comitê de solidariedade aos Povos Indígenas - CSPI) on recent attempt to evict natives and peasants from land they retook themselves:

Kaiowá and Guarani Natives, along with residents of the Bororo village, blocked the access road to Itaporã on a part of the Dourados road with barricades on November 24th. The protest repudiated the new eviction order sentenced by the Federal Justice to be fulfilled in 20 days. The retaken land has already completed 8 years of existence.
